Reduction currents for H2O2 at a heme peptide (HP)-modified electrodes are suppressed by inhibitors, such as imidazole derivatives. Although this inhibition effect allows determinations of the total inhibition ability of imidazole derivatives, it has no selectivity. In this study the selectivity control of HP-modified electrodes for imidazole derivatives was performed utilizing the thermoresponsive phase transition of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), which was chemically immobilized on HP-modified electrodes. The inhibition ratios for imidazole derivatives appeared to be small at temperatures below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), and to be large above the LCST. This change was ascribed to a steric hindrance caused by a phase transition of the polymer. On the other hand, the inhibition ratio for histamine, which has a larger molecular size relative to imidazole, was not significantly changed by the phase transition. Thus, the selectivity of the HP-modified electrode was found to be controllable using an immobilized phase-transition polymer.

The corrosion inhibition performance of 2-styryl-1,8-dihydro-1,3,8-triaza-cyclopentaindene (IIZ) on Aluminium in 1M HCl was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Potentiodynamic polarization, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and quantum chemical techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization study confirmed that IIZ is mixed type inhibitor with cathodic predominance. SEM and AFM confirm the formation of an adsorption film on the aluminium surface. Quantum chemical study reveals that protonated IIZ interacts more than neutral IIZ. The theoretical data obtained are in agreement with experimental results.

The aim of this work was to investigate if imidazole-derivatives are able to induce specific malformations similar to those observed after triazole-derivative exposure. Post implantation rat embryos were exposed in vitro to 1000 mu M Imidazole and to 5-100 mu M of the imidazole-derivatives Ketoconazole and Enilconazole. After 48 h in culture, the embryos exposed to the imidazole-derivatives showed specific malformations, quite similar to those observed after triazole-derivative exposure. The common dysmorphogenic effects of the azole-derivatives of the two classes could be due to the inhibition of retinoid catabolism. Studies on interaction between an imidazole derivative and bovine serum by spectral methods

The interaction between a trifluoromethyl substituted imidazole derivative 2-(4-(trifluorometh yl)phenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-f] [1,10] phenanthroline (tfmppip) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated by solution spectral studies. The observed experimental result shows that the imidazole derivative has strong ability to quench the fluorescence of BSA by forming complex which is stabilized by electrostatic interactions. The effective quenching constants (k(sv)) were 2.79 x 10(4), 2.51 x 10(4), and 2.32 x 10(4) at 301, 310 and 318 K respectively. The Stern-Volmer quenching constant (K-sv), binding site number (n), apparent binding constant (K-A) and corresponding thermodynamic parameters (Delta G, Delta H and Delta S) were calculated. The distance between the donor (BSA) and acceptor (tfmppip) was obtained according to fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). Conformational changes of BSA were observed from synchronous fluorescence technique. The effect of metal ions such as Cu2+, Zn2+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Ni2+, Co2+ and Fe2+ on the binding constants between the imidazole derivative and BSA were also studied. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Mono- or di-substituted imidazole derivatives were synthesized using a one-pot, two-step strategy.
