Ionic liquids of [C4 mim]HSO4, [C6mim]HSO4 and [C8mim]HS04 were synthesized by two-step method and used for alkylation of isobutene and butane. The effect of ionic liquids, temperature and catalyst on alkylation was studied. The best result was obtained when ionic liquids [C6mim]HSO4 was used as catalyst. The conversion rate with [C6mim]HSO4 as catalyst was 90% and the yield of alkylation was 89%, in which the optimum reaction time was 1 h and the amount of [C6mim]HSO4 was 6 g.
